National Insect Week is HERE
Wednesday, June 27, 2018 - 10:00 to 18:00
Get up close and personal with dazzlingly beautiful butterflies in our new 576m2 tropical Butterfly Forest exhibit.
Marvel as you take the scenic path around the huge walkthrough, gaining an insight into the fascinating life cycle of a butterfly from egg to pupae, and then caterpillar to butterfly as you go.
Be sure to check yourself in the mirror before you leave to make sure none have landed on you!
There are lots of contenders here – possibly the pretty red and blue rove beetle Paederus – very, very tiny amounts of its poison have been used to cure chronic ulceration in people. Ladybirds are pretty poisonous (and pretty) and can bleed foul-tasting poisonous brightly coloured blood from their knees.
