National Insect Week returns in 2020
Friday, June 29, 2018 - 10:00 to 18:00
Come celebrate National Insect Week at ZSL London Zoo! Free with normal zoo entry.
We have a huge number of living invertebrates on display, in our BUGS! exhibit and Butterfly Paradise. We will be bringing out some fantasticinvertebrates at our daily 1pm Megabugs! event, and of course the regular 3pm spider talk.
Plus look out for some unscheduled insect encounters in the BUGS building during this week. We have an extra Spineless report video display on threatened invertebrates in time for NIW. And why not get embedded in a special 3-D photograph with some cool invertebrates, newly for sale in BUGS.
There are lots of contenders here – possibly the pretty red and blue rove beetle Paederus – very, very tiny amounts of its poison have been used to cure chronic ulceration in people. Ladybirds are pretty poisonous (and pretty) and can bleed foul-tasting poisonous brightly coloured blood from their knees.
