Sensational Butterflies at Natural History Museum

Sunday, June 24, 2018 - 10:00 to 17:00

See hundreds of live butterflies and moths up-close in our tropical butterfly house.

This technicolour exhibition features a huge variety of these beautiful insects, ethically sourced from Africa, Asia and the Americas.

Follow the trail through a jungle habitat in the heart of London as butterflies fly around you. You will pass hungry caterpillars, insects emerging from their chrysalises and busy feeding stations.

Kids and families can find out fascinating butterfly facts and learn more about the behaviour and diversity of these much-loved creatures.

Female water snipe flies Atherix ibis clasp each other and cluster in big round aggregations on the end of branches overhanging rivers – males entering the swarms are mated repeatedly until they die. The females then lay their eggs in to the water – and all die still in their tight aggregations.
