92 days to go to National Insect Week
Visit WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre and discover how the WWT Trust is working around the World to save different species of birds from extinction. Visit hides where you can view the Severn Reserve wetlands to see the wild birds. See otters or our flamingo lagoon. For the adventurous, hire a canoe and explore our reserve canals, or take one of our Land Rover Safaris where a warden will take you on to the reserve to see the wild birds, hares and flowers.
Female water snipe flies Atherix ibis clasp each other and cluster in big round aggregations on the end of branches overhanging rivers – males entering the swarms are mated repeatedly until they die. The females then lay their eggs in to the water – and all die still in their tight aggregations.
