The Food and Environment Research Agency is an Executive Agency of Defra. Fera has three areas of responsibility: (1) Regulation, policy and risk - Fera delivers inspectorate functions and work with the lead authorities and agencies to support policy development. (2) Research and assurance - Fera provides scientific evidence, analysis and professional advice. (3) Response and recovery - Fera is an essential element of the nation's capability to respond to, and recover from, emergency situations.

There are lots of contenders here – possibly the pretty red and blue rove beetle Paederus – very, very tiny amounts of its poison have been used to cure chronic ulceration in people. Ladybirds are pretty poisonous (and pretty) and can bleed foul-tasting poisonous brightly coloured blood from their knees.
